The study investigated the moderating roles of perceived transformational leadership behaviours and job crafting on the negative relationship between hindrance job demands and work engagement. Cross-sectional data was collected from 213 employees working full time in industries, banks, and hospitals in Southeastern, Nigeria. Consistent with our prediction, the results of the moderated hierarchical regression analysis showed that hindrance job demands negatively related to work engagement. The results of the study also indicated that both perceived transformational leadership behaviour and job crafting positively related to work engagement. Job crafting had a moderating effect on the negative relationship between hindrance job demands and work engagement. The moderating effect of perceived transformational leadership behaviour on the negative relationship between hindrance job demands and work engagement was not statistically significant. The results of the study suggest that when organisations allow employees to redesign their job tasks to suit their capabilities, it ignites enthusiasm in the employees even in the presence of adverse working conditions.
